Suspected RDX blast kills 20 in TN village

Tindivanam, Apr 7 (UNI) At least 20 people were killed when a Jeep suspected to be carrying RDX, exploded at Chendur village in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu today.

Police said nearly 40 people were injured in the blast. They were admitted to JIPMER in Puducherry and in Tindivanam and Villupuram government hospitals.

The jeep was parked near the village on the Tindivanam- Villupuram Highway when on seeing smoke emanating from it, the local villagers came near the vehicle in a bid to put it out and it suddenly exploded.

Most of the victims were curious onlookers, who had surrounded the jeep. Four highways department personnel were also among those killed when their vehicle, in which they were travelling, was ripped apart as it passed the stationed jeep at the time of the explosion.

The deceased included four women and a child.
