SP workers clash over assembly ticket allotment
Varanasi, Apr 7 (UNI) Two groups of the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) allegedly clashed in the Nadesar area here today over the allotment of party ticket for the Varanasi (North) assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
Two groups clashed under Cantonment police station area and later damaged three vehicles, including an Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus.
Mild force was applied to prevent the situation from worsening further, police said.
The clash took place following the SP's decision to field Haji Abdul Sammad Ansari from the Varanasi (North) constituency that goes to polls on May 3 next. Earlier, the SP had alloted the ticket to sitting MLA Rabia Kalam, who is the wife of former MLA Abdul Kalam.
Police in strength has been deployed in the Nadesar and Peeli Kothi areas as a precautionary measure.
