Rahul's roadshow spells trouble for Congress
Kanpur, Apr 7 (UNI) Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's recent roadshow here is now spelling trouble for the state party candidates with the district administration serving showcause notices to them for violation of the model code of conduct by the leader while canvassing for the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.
Additional District Magistrate (city) Ayub Khan said here today, no permission had been sought for the roadshow on April 3.
Besides, Mr Gandhi's helicopter landed at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, without seeking permission from authorities concerned, he added.
The administration will issue reminders to the candidates, if they failed to reply within a stipulated timeframe.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has been apprised of the development.
The notice seeks clarification from the respective Congress candidates, as to why cases should not be registered against them for the violation of Section 144 (Prohibitory Orders) and the model code of conduct.
Mr Khan said legal action would be taken against the candidates for not complying with the notice on time.
Mr Gandhi was here on April 3 and 4 for his roadshows.
