Mystery disease claims one more life

Satna, MP, Apr 7 (UNI) The death toll due to a mysterious disease has gone up to seven with the death of one more child at Mala Toda village, 25 km from this district headquarters.

Satna Chief Medical Officer J L Mishra said one-and-half year old Ravi Dhimar died after complaining of vomiting followed by de-hydration. Similar symptoms had been observed in six children, who died of the disease earlier.

Significantly, the death took place in the hostel where members of affected families and their neighbours had been quarantined.

A medical team from Jabalpur and Rewa have conducted post-mortem and sent viscera to forensic laboratory in Sagar.

Earlier, a team of National Institute of Communicable Diseases medical experts had visited the village on March 30 and 31. However, it could not arrive at a conclusion.

Besides the NICD, other medical institutions were working to find about the disease.

Animal Husbandry Minister Rampal Singh, who is also the district incharge minister, and Minister of State for Home Nagendra Singh, who represents Nagaud constituency in assembly, visited the affected families.

The disease had has claimed lives of six children between February 24 to April 2 in the village.

A base hospital had been set up at the panchayat building where doctors and other staff were available round the clock.
