Lt-Gov of Delhi to be sworn in as Meghalaya Gov
Shillong, Apr 7: Banwari Lal Joshi, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, will be sworn in as the next Meghalaya Governor on April 12, Raj Bhawan sources said here today.
Mr Joshi succeeds Mundakkal Mathew Jacob who held the post for a record 12 years. He also discharged the function of the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh for some time.
Mr Jacob, who holds the record of independent India's longest serving Governor, has been tipped for the Vice-President's Office.
The term of Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat expires this August.
Mr Jacob, a renowned Congress parliamentarian, has served as Union Minister of State for Home in the Narasimha Rao's Cabinet.
