JD(U) leader shot dead

Nawada, Apr 7 (UNI) A block-level secretary of Janata Dal(United), Binod Kumar, was shot dead near Manua village under Hisua police station last night, police today said.

Police said the criminals laid a trap and attacked the JD (U) leader whenhe was on his way back home from Nawada, after attending a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar yesterday.

Police suspect the hand of a notorious criminal Chun Chun Singh behind the killing. Chun Chun was released a couple of months back and was probably waiting for the opportune momment to avenge his arrest, police sources said.

Local JD(U) and BJP activists squatted on the road at Prajatantra Chowk with the victim's body, refusing to move away until a compensation of Rs five lakh was announced for the next of the kin of the slain JD(U) leader.
