IED defused on national highway

Jammu, Apr 7 (UNI) Recovering a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED), security forces averted a possible tragedy on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Digdol near 165 kilometer mile-stone, official sources said today.

They said a Road Opening Party (ROP) of the Army detected an IED under a culvert on the highway last evening and informed the traffic police to immediately stop movement of vehicles from both sides.

The sources said Army's bomb disposal squad was called on the spot to defuse the IED weighing three kg. We can not rule out the possibility of IED having been planted to target the convoy of the security forces on the 300 km long national highway,'' the sources added.
