Mandi, Apr 7 (UNI) President of the Himachal Pradesh unit of the BJP Jai Ram Thakur today expressed surprise over the Election Commission's decision to register an FIR against party president Rajnath Singh in the controversial CD case.

Addressing mediapersons here, he said since the party president had no role in the preparation and release of the CD, the decision to register a case against him was unwarranted.

Mr Thakur lamented that the Election Commission appeared to have acted in an ''unpleasant haste'' and issued directions without getting well versed with the facts.

''Mr Singh had not even seen the controversial CD on which the EC has ordered the registration of a case.'' Observing that the Election Commission was acting under political pressure, he said the conspiracy has been hatched by the Congress and its allies.

He said Himachal Pradesh would go the Punjab and Uttarakhand way in the next assembly elections as the people of the state were fed up with the Congress Government, which had failed in checking corruption and unemployment.

Referring to the setting up of a Medical College at Sundernagar in Mandi district, the BJP state president said the government was befooling the people as it had not made financial provision for it in the Budget.

He said the BJP's massive rally at Hamirpur yesterday had demonstrated the party's strength and a clear indication to the Congress that it was on its way out.
