Agartala, Apr 7 (UNI) Tripura Pradesh Congress(TPCC) Committee has urged both the west and south district authorities to take necessary steps to ensure fair distribution of employment forms under Rural Employment Guaranteed Scheme(REGS).

Opposition leader in the state assembly, Ratan Lal Nath alleged that reports of irregularities in the distribution of the forms in the rural areas had started pouring in from west and south districts, soon after the introduction of REGS from April 1.

The ruling CPI(M) party memebers had distributed these forms, under the centrally-sponsored scheme, for free to job-seekers, who were close to the party, he alleged.

The genuinely poor people were deprieved of getting jobs under REGS scheme, Mr Nath said and alleged the ruling party in these two districts also resorted to its earlier tactics as was done in Dhalai district, where REGS was introduced for the first time last year.

An important meeting, chaired by TPCC chief Samir Ranjan Burman, was held yesterday to review the ongoing form distribution system.

However, state Rural Development Minister Jitendra Chowdhry said the recent opposition party allegation on utilisation of various developmental funds, by the state government was a false propaganda.

Each paise sanctioned by the union government to the state was spent for the development of poor people, Mr Chowdhury claimed.
