CEC asks Naqvi to present BJP's viewpoint on CD issue

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) The Central Election Commission today asked BJP Vice-President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi to present his party's viewpoint on the controversial CD issue on Monday at 1100 hrs.

The CEC summon follows the BJP's reply to its notice to the party yesterday.

A delegation of BJP leadership, which met the CEC yesterday under the leadership of Mr Naqvi, had said that the contentious CD referred to in the notice was not official nor was it seen or approved by the BJP leadership.

The Uttar Pradesh BJP unit had released a controversial CD, allegedly containing ''objectionable'' remarks against Muslims and visuals of Godhra arson and Babri demolition, in Lucknow on Tuesday.

The BJP had maintained that it had not violated the EC's model code of conduct and urged the Commission to withdraw the notice issued to it.

The release of the CD was not an act committed by the party but it was an individual lapse, he said. The party totally complies with the election code.

Meanwhile, the CEC has decided to give an opportunity to the three political parties -- the BJP, BSP and Jan Morcha-- to discuss various issues including the controversial CD issue.
