BJP heading for a landslide win in MCD polls
New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) The BJP today seemed set to sweep the polls for the 272-member Municipal Corporation of Delhi, bagging 64 seats and registering leads in 170 wards.
The Congress had won 21 seats and was ahead in 49 places as per the latest trends available for 260 seats.
Independents and others had won 14 seats and were ahead in 34 wards of the MCD.
On a comeback trail, a triumphant BJP was heading toward dethroning the Congress which seemed to have been swept away by a wave againt incumbency, sealing and inflation.
In the last MCD polls, the Congress had won 108 seats out of a total of 134 in the House, while the BJP had 20 and the BSP two seats.
As the results poured in, BJP Delhi Pradesh BJP chief Harshvardhan said,''this win is a result of the collective efforts of all the BJP workers who have been campaigning for the polls day and night over the last one month.'' Polling for a total 272 seats in the MCD was held on April 5 and 6.
