BJP and SP are using communal card in UP: Gehlot

Jaipur, Apr 7 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot alleged the BJP and the Samajwadi party have been using the communal card to win the UP assembly elections.

Mr Gehlot talking to newsmen here said ''while the BJP is playing the Hindu card, the Samajwadi Party has been using the Muslim card to divide voters on communal lines''.

Referring to the compact disc (CD) contaning inflamatory campaign material of the BJP the former Chief minister while appreciating the steps taken by the Election Commission, called for strong measures to curtail such incidents in future.

Talking about Congress Party's chances in UP the AICC general secretary in charge of the state said the party did not expect any miracle in the state. ''We are not expecting any miracle there with the voters have been divided on caste and communal lines.'' However he claimed Congress will improve uopn its performance in the past in terms of seats and vote percentage.

He said Mr Rahul Gandhi will be a factor tilting the younger voters in favour of the Congress in Uttar Pradesh.
