Bihar: JD(United) leader shot dead

Nawada, Apr 7: A block-level secretary of Janata Dal(United) Binod Kumar was shot dead near Manua village under Hisua police station last night.

Police said the criminals laid a trap and captured him when the JD(U) leader was on his way back home from Nawada, after attending a meeting addressed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar yesterday.

Police suspect a notorious criminal Chun Chun Singh whom the victim handed over to them last year. Chun Chun was released a couple of months back and may have been waiting for the opportune momment to avenge his arrest, police sources said.

Local JD(U) and BJP activists squatted on the road at Prajatantra Chowk with the victim's body, refusing to move away until a compensation of Rs five lakh was announced for the next of the kin of the slain JD(U) leader.
