Army Exhibition in Meghalaya

Shillong, Apr 7 (UNI) An Army exhibition-'Know Your Army' today took place under the aegis of Headquarters 101 Area at Polo ground here.

The military pageant commenced with fanfare by the buglers to welcome Governor M M Jacob.

Meghalaya Chief Minister D D Lapang and senior cabinet colleagues, GOC 101 area Vinod Nayanar and Col S N Rai, the Commandant Assam Regimental Centre and other high ranking civil and military dignitaries were present on the occasion.

The event unfolded with a spectacular display by the sky divers of elite para commandos of the Indian Army, followed by another high voltage event -- the Motor Cycle display by the ''Tornadoes'' team -- the holder of Guinness book of World Record for forming the largest human pyramid.

Latest generation of weapons and equipment, including the Bofors Gun, Mine protected Vehicle, Anti Material Rifle, Battle field Surveillance Radar and communication equipment were on display.

The vibrant and colourful display of 'Fish of the Sword: Warriors of the North East' and Heliborne operations by the soldiers of the Assam Regimental Centre were executed with absolute perfection drawing thundering applause from the spectators.

Skills of the Military Canines put up by the army dog unit mesmerised the young and the old alike. The acrobatic display by gymnasts of international repute of the ARC was a rare show of physical agility and vitality.

The visitors evinced keen interest in the stalls showcasing the glorious history of the Army, varioul operations including United Nation operations, training, adventure activities and human forces army put up by the Field Composite Signal Regiment, 58 GTC and Military Hospital, Shillong.

The free medical, dental and eye check up facilities provided by Military Hospital, Shillong and the career counselling facility by zonal recruiting office, Shillong attracted huge crowd. Young soldiers of the Army donated 20 units of blood which were handed over to the civil hospitals.

Young boys and girls from NCC units of Shillong also actively participated in the exhibition and rendered assistance to the organiser.
