390 MW Dul-Hasti Hydro project commissioned

Jammu, Apr 7 (UNI) The 390 MW Dul-Hasti Hydro-Electric Power Station was commissioned in mountainous Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, at least 270 Kms from here, around mid night last, official sources said.

The Sources said the power generation from the project was started on trial basis earlier but the commercial generation of power started with effect from 0000 hrs today.

The work on which was began in April 1983 on river Chinab. This hydro-electric power project consists of a diversion dam at 'Dul' across the river Chenab and a Power House at 'Hasti'.

The National Hydroelectric Project Corporation (NHPC) said the all the three turbines have started power generation. ''The power station has officially been commercialised and we have started supplying electricity to Krishanpur Grid near Udhampur,'' sources added.

The power station was successfully synchronised with the grid in the month of February-March this year.

With the synchronisation of all the three units a total of 390 MW of power is being sent to Krishanpur Grid near Udhampur in J&K through two 400 KV, 135 km long, single circuit transmission line.

The completion of project has been delayed with uncertainty and set backs particularly at the 10.6 km HRT and geological problems of unprecedented nature having been encountered.

It is the second project after Uri Hydro-Electric Project, which has been commissioned in the state. With the commissioning of the project the state would get 237 million units of free power costing over Rs 700 million annually.

It is mandatory for all projects commissioned by the NHPC to give 12 per cent of the power generated as royalty to Jammu and Kashmir.
