Youth consumes acid in police station

Ambala, Apr 6 (UNI) A youth arrested in connection with demanding ransom from a businessman of Ambala Cantonment, consumed acid in an attempt to commit suicide in the Police station today.

According to information he went to the bathroom and consumed acid kept for cleaning the rooms. The youth identified as Ravi, resident of Cross Road Number 12, was referred to the civil hospital of Ambala City this morning.

Ravi was kept under observation but his condition started deteriorating after an hour. Thereafter he was referred to the PGI Chandigarh.

The accused was arrested by the CIA staff while receiving the ransom amount through a worker of the businessman near a Mazar in Sham Nagar locality.

Meanwhile, the police produced Ravi's accomplice Ashish Negi, resident of Vashishat nagar in the court here today. The court remanded him in police custody for one day. Ashish had demanded a ransom of Rs 50,000 from a property dealer Sunil Sethi from Maheshnagar colony.
