Work on Cauvery V stage to begin soon in B'lore
Bangalore, Apr 6: To meet the growing water needs of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike area, BWSSB is thinking of taking up the 5th stage of Cauvery works, to bring more water to Bangalore, said the Chairman of BWSSB, N C Muniyappa.
He was delivering a talk at an event organised by the Federation of Karanataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) on Thursday.
Fifth stage
The board is conducting a survey in the Greater Bangalore area to assess the requirement of water. Once the survey is completed we will plan the 5th stage of works, he explained.
By the end of June Bangalore will be getting 100 MLD of water, which will be supplied to the 50 new wards of the BBMP, he said. He also said that with the completion of Phase II of the 4th stage of Cauvery works, the city will get 500 MLD water by 2011.
He suggested that industrialists should set up water treatment plants and use treated water to tackle water shortage. Rainwater harvesting and minimising leakage of water can also help check water shortage.
