TN CM approves Directorate for Minorities Welfare
Chennai, Apr 6 (UNI) Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today gave the nod for the constitution of a new Directorate for Minorities Welfare.
The Directorate would draw up plans for the socio-economic and educational development of minorities and take efforts for their speedy implementation, an official release here said.
The new Directorate, to be headed by an IAS officer, would function independently with necessary staff, it added.
The Chief Minister's assent for setting up a new Directorate come a day after his announcement in the State Assembly yesterday that the Government had decided to provide exclusive reservation for Christian and Muslim minorities in Government jobs and educational institutions in the State.
