New Delhi, Apr 6 (UNI) Indira Gandhi National Open University Vice Chancellor V N Rajasekharan Pillai today said IGNOU has made significant contributions in the expansion of the Open and Distance Learning system in the global scenario.

The open university offered several programmes across the globe through partnering arrangements with various educational institutions, he said.

''Indian Ocean rim countries, SAARC member states, South East Asia, Africa and the Pacific.'' IGNOU had opened four new partner institutions -- in Nepal for Health Sciences and Management Programmes, in Ethiopia for Management and postgraduate programmes, in Afghanistan for undergraduate programmes, and in Sri Lanka for MBA and other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

The response from Ethiopia was specially very encouraging, as many as 250 students had enrolled in the July 2006 cycle.
