Security up in Asom on eve of ULFA's Raising Day

Guwahati, Apr 6(UNI) Security measures have been tightened across Asom ahead of the ULFA's 'Raising Day' tomorrow.

The proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) is known to step up violence before its Raising Day, with many blasts already reported from different parts of the state in the last few days.

Capital Guwahati had been the site of four blasts over the past week though there were no casualties.

City Senior Superintendent of Police S N Singh informed that special security measures were in place in the city to thwart any insurgent strikes.

''Security has been enhanced and we are taking steps to ensure that the militants are not been able to strike,'' he said.

Intelligence sources were quoted in local media as stating that the ULFA's 709 battalion was targetting the capital city and its leadership was already in the city to carry the strikes.
