Rs 1,303.24 cr central excise, custom duty earned

Indore, Apr 6 (UNI) The Commissionerate of Central Excise, Custom Duty and Service Tax, Indore, has earned a revenue of Rs 1,303.24 crore for the year ended 2006-07, almost Rs 27 crore more than previous year.

The revenue included Rs 862.73 crore as central excise, Rs 177.81 crore as custom duty and Rs 262.70 as service tax.

According to official information, Rs 12 crore was collected on the spot in tax evasion matters pertaining to central excise duty and service tax.

In 60 cases related central excise duty, tax evasion of Rs 35 crore was detected and Rs three crore collected on the spot.

Likewise, Rs 11 crore tax evasion was detected in 80 cases related to service tax and Rs nine crore collected on the spot.

Of the nine cases admitted for prosecution in the previous year, proceedings had began in seven cases. One arrest had also been made in a tax evasion-related case.
