Rajnath feigns ignorance on contents of CD

Hamirpur, Apr 6 (UNI) BJP president Rajnath Singh today feigned ignorance about the contents of the controversial CD released by the Uttar Pradesh unit of the party.

''I have never seen any CD of that sort till now,'' he said, while addressing a press conference here.

Mr Singh said the disc was released due to a communication gap between the party leadership and the state unit.

The BJP was a responsible political party and it has always followed the Election Commission's model code of conduct and would continue to follow the rules and conduct laid down by it, the leader said.

He said the party had already sent its reply to the Election Commission of India and was now awaiting its reply.

Replying to a question that the SP and the BSP had demanded de-recognition of the BJP on the CD issue, he said the party had never violated the EC's code of model conduct and therefore there was no question of de-recognising the party.

Ruling out any post poll alliance with the SP or the BSP in Uttar Pradesh, he said the party would form a government on its own and there was no question of any alliance with any other party.

Rubbishing the surveys of various TV channels that placed the BJP third behind SP and BJP in UP, he said these channels would be proved wrong after the assembly elections.

Mr Singh criticised the UPA government at the Centre for its failure on all fronts and said while prices of essential commodities were sky-rocketing beyond the reach of the common man, the government was pursuing the policy of minority appeasement.

Besides, it had failed in tackling terrorism that has plagued various states of the country, Mr Singh said.

He said the Indian government should tell Pakistan that it would not hold any talks with it on the Jammu and Kashmir issue. He also blamed Pakistan for spreading insurgency in the state.
