Quintiles launch central lab in Mumbai

Mumbai, Apr 6 (UNI) US based clinical development service firm, Quintiles Transnational Corporation, announced the launch of their new central lab here today.

''With the opening of the new lab, Quintiles is now able to provide an end to end service to the mushrooming pharma-clinical research sectors of India with improved research activities," said Dennis Gillings, Chairman of the USD 2 billion company while addressing a press conference here.

Quintiles has completed 10 years of its operations in India and is a key player in the country's pharma market with over 30 best selling drugs developed from its research labs.

The company already has centres in Ahmedabad and Banglore, and mainly engages in drug development, financial partnering and commercialisation for biotechnology and healthcare industries.

''As the Indian market continues its upward motion in pharmaceutical industry, the ensuing years will be high-yielding for related firms and Quintiles is all set to be part of that growth by imparting constant expansion programmes," said the CEO of Quintiles India, Ferzaan Engineer. The company has nearly 1400 employees in India.

India has been emerging as a global platform for clinical research outsourcing(CRO) in the past decades, he said. In addition to the central lab and clinical research business, the company also offers Electrocardiogram(ECG), Interactive Voice Response (IVR) and data management services.
