Jagjit Singh Chohan's mortal remains consigned to flames

Hoshiarpur, Apr 6 (UNI) The mortal remains of Dr Jagjit Singh Chohan, a ''Khalistan'' ideologue, were consigned to flames at the backside of Chohan Charitable Clinic at Tanda, 32 Km from here, today.

Mr Rupinder Singh, his adopted son, Mr Jorawar Singh Chohan, nephew and Mr Mukhtiar Singh, brother-in-law, jointly lit the pyre.

Hundreds of his admirers, supporters and associates, including various luminaries of the Sikh Panth and SAD factions attended his funeral. Dr Chohan passed away at the age of 80 following a massive heart attack on Wednesday last at Tanda.

The body of Dr Jagjit Singh Chohan was brought from the Rangi Ram Charitable Hospital, Jaja, where it was kept in the mortuary, and then to his residence at 0830 hrs today.

During the funeral procession, some mourners, carrying placards with ''Khalistan Zindabad'' written in English, raised slogans of ''Raj Karega Khalsa'', ''Dr Jagjit Singh Chohan Amar Rahe'', ''Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawala Amar Rahe'', ''Darshan Singh Pheruman Amar Rahe'', ''Bahi Amrik Singh Amar Rahe'' and ''Khalistan Jindabad''.

Among those who attended the funeral included Justice Ajit Singh Bains, Chairman, Human Rights, Punjab, Mr Simranjit Singh Mann, President of SAD (Amritsar), Mr Balbir Singh Kurala, Mr Bhagwant Singh Hardothala, both SGPC members, Mr Balbir Singh Miani, former Minister and Mr Manjit Singh Calcutta, former SGPC member.
