This was decided at the meeting of UPA-Left parties at the official residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here tonight .

During the two-hour long meeting it was decided that there would be no caste based census, Congress sources said.

It was also decided that the Prime Minister will convene an all party meeting to further discuss the issue.

According to sources, it was decided that the Government would try to get 27 per cent reservation for OBCs implemented from this academic session itself.

The meeting was attended among others by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, Minister for Chemical and Fertiliser Ram Vilas Paswan, CPI(M) Politburo member Sitaram Yechury, CPI leader D Raja, RSP leader and MP Abani Roy besides the Prime Minister and some of his Cabinet colleagues.

CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan and party national secretary D Raja told UNI that the Left leaders impressed upon the Government that it must demonstrate its commitment to defend the legislative right of the deprived section.

The Left leaders also said it must remind the Supreme Court that the parliamentary legislation on reservation on OBC was almost unanimously passed in both houses of Parliament.

The leaders said the Government had got enough facts and figures including that of National Sample Survey to prove its decision right before the apex court.
