Fire in chemical factory; 21 suffer burn injuries

Surat, Apr 6 (UNI) A fire today engulfed a chemical factory on the Palsana Highway, leaving at least 21 persons, including 14 workers, injured and causing substantial loss of property, police sources said.

The fire broke out at 'Spectrum Dyes' near the Highway this morning. Around 14 workers sustained burn injuries and another seven persons engaged in the fire dousing operations met the same fate.

All the injured people were admitted to various hospitals, the sources added.

A fire brigade team from Surat Municipal Corporation and another team from Navsari rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze, fire-brigade sources said.

Some of the staff members in the fire brigade team also suffered minor burn injuries, the sources added.

The reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained.
