EC functioning should be reviewed: SP

New Delhi, Apr 6 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) General secretary Amar Singh today accused the Election Commission (EC) of India of acting in a partial manner while conducting the State assembly elections.

Addressing a press conference here today Mr Singh said the manner of holding a seven phase election is a clear cut sign of the dictatorial style of functioning of the commission. He said the commission has adopted the same style while conducting the assembly polls in Bengal and the Communists Party of India (Marxists have proved that the people are with them and they are right.

In response to a question Mr Singh ecohed the same tone as earlied voiced by CPI(M) General Secretary, Prakash Karat that the functioning of the EC should be reviewed.

He critised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for blatantly violating the election rules particularly after releasing the CD which would defnitely create tensions among the muslims.

Mr Singh said former Prime Minister Atal Bihar Vajpayee and and senior BJP leader L K Advani and present party Chief Rajnath Singh should resign from politics owing moral responsibility.

Responding to questions Mr Singh said film star Amitabh Bachchan is not charging any payment for the advertisement issued by the SP.

Earlier, Mr Singh said, he had full respect for the judiciary but at the same time pointed out that it was the same judge who had delivered the judgement against the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) that it is no more a muslim university and now he has given the judgement that muslims are not minority in Uttar Pradesh. He said though this judgement is being set aside by a higher bench but still the people could judge on their own about the integrety of the judiciary, he added.
