EC decision on CD controversy is partisan: Advani

New Delhi, Apr 6 (UNI) Hitting out hard against the Election Commission's decision of filing an FIR against BJP president Rajnath Singh in connection with the alleged 'communal CD' in Uttar Pradesh, former Deputy PM L K Advani today said the biased approach would not be tolerated by countrymen.

Elucidating the Congress' ''communal advertisements'' during the 1984 general elections, held in the aftermath of the anti-Sikh riots, Mr Advani said no action was taken by the Commission then.

''Despite the party president not being involved and the so called CD withdrawn even before the complaint was made, the approach of the EC smacks of partisan attitude and mala fide intentions,'' said the senior BJP leader while speaking at the party's Foundation Day celebration ceremony here.

As per rules the Election Commission takes action against a party only if the party defies its directive or continues to violate election norms, but no party head is targetted, he noted.

Even at Nandigram in West Bengal, where scores of women and men were raped and brutalised, no FIR was filed. But here an FIR was made against an individual who was not involved in any way, he said.

While emphasising that the ''CD was not an official instrument but prepared by an individual and without the approval of the party leadership'' Mr Advani said merely the mention of Ayodhya and Godhra in it did not make the CD communal.
