China model not possible in India : Mamata
Kolkata, Apr 6 (UNI) Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today accused the Left Front government in West Bengal of following the China model ''blindly'' for industrial progress and termed it as ''absurd.'' Reiterating her demand of repealing the Land Acquisition Act of 1894 and scrapping the Special Economic Zone(SEZ) policy to the Centre, Ms Banerjee observed that the state government was ''imitating'' the land acquisition policy of China without realising the ''basic difference'' in regard to governance of China and abundant land resources of that country.
" One party dictatorship is running the Chinese government and they have huge land resources for setting up industries, but the state government is a coalition of number of parties and West Bengal does not have much land for the same purpose and hence China model is not possible here,'' she opined.
'' Already about six crore people in our country have been affected because of the Centre's land acquisition policy, " she alleged.
Ms Banerjee informed that a Trinamool delegation would meet Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi this evening and urge him for taking necessary steps to contain fresh violence at Kanungo chawk in East Midnapore by the CPI(M) cadres.
She also welcomed former Pradesh Congress president Somen Mitra's comment that both the Union Ministers from the state- Pranab Mukherjee and Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi should have resigned after the Nandigram incidents on March 14.
