AIADMK MLA's residence attacked

Chennai, Apr 6 (UNI) A day after he was suspended from the Tamil Nadu Assembly for the rest of the Budget session, a 30-member armed gang, attacked the house of AIADMK MLA V P Kalairajan at his native Orthanadu village in Thanjavur district late last night.

While AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa condemned the attack and said it was as an act of political vendetta by the ruling DMK, official sources said here today that a complaint was lodged with the police and investigations were on to ascertain the motive behind the incident.

The front portion of the house, a bicyle,and a two-wheeler were damaged in the attack. Asbsetos sheets kept at the corridor were also pulled down by the miscreants.

The incident occurred around midnight last night when the gang barged into the house and damaged the vehicles. Mr Kalairajan's father, who was sleeping in the corridor managed to get into the house.

As the inmates switched on the lights, the gang escaped under the cover of darkness.

No arrests have been made so far in connection with the incident, police said.

Tension prevailed in the area since this morning following the incident and police pickets were posted in the area to prevent any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, in a statement here, Ms Jayalalithaa claimed that Mr Kalairajan's father was injured in the attack and admitted to a hospital.

The attack was a sequel to the incidents in the State Assembly yesterday in which Mr Kalairajan and three other AIADMK MLAs were suspended for the rest of the session after the Speaker ordered enmasse eviction of the Opposition members, following unruly scenes over a remark made by Agriculture Minister against AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran, she said.
