Youth Congress condemns SMC for flyover collapse

Surat, Apr 5 (UNI) The city unit of the Youth Congress today held a rally to condemn the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Ranjit Constructions for the collapse of an under-construction flyover at Majura Gate here yesterday in which at least nine persons were injured.

The construction work of the flyover had been entrusted by the SMC to Ranjit Constructions. The activists burnt the SMC and Ranjit Constructions in effigy to register their condemnation.

The activists also held a ''dharna'' near the collapsed portion of the flyover.

The rally was addressed by Congress city unit president Sunil Bukhanwala, SMC Congress leader Babubhai Kapadia and corporator Jayesh Liliyawala who alleged that there has been widespread corruption in the award of contracts for the construction of flyovers in the city.
