Tuticorin port reduces labour levy

Tuticorin, Apr 5 (UNI) The Tuticorin Port has announced a concession in labour levy which is expected to benefit the users of the port immensely.

According to a press release here today the reduction in per ton cost of handling, following the concession, was expected to increase the volume of cargo handled through the port.

The port was also taking various initiatives to increase the volume of cargo and containers handled. Keeping in view the future requirements, the port was offering various concessions to the users and at the same time developing the infrastructures, the release said.

The works on construction of ninth berth at an estimated cost of Rs 45 crore and upgradation of the roads at the port at a cost of Rs 18 crore had already commenced. In the inner harbour development to be taken up shortly, the draft in the harbour basin will be increased from 10.7 m to 12.8 m, at a cost of Rs 442 crore, it added.
