TN govt says absolute no to lotteries

Chennai, Apr 5 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today categorically said sale of lotteries would not be allowed in the State and warned of stern action against those indulging in clandestine sale.

Intervening during the debate on the demand for grants for the Commercial Taxes department, Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy recalled Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's recent remark on the arrest of 580 people for illegally selling lottery tickets in the State.

When Mr S M Velusamy (AIADMK) alleged that clandestine sale of lottery tickets were taking place and wanted to know whether the government was planning to bring back its sale, which was banned by the previous AIADMK regime, the Minister said sale of lotteries in any form would not be allowed.

'If any instance of sale of lottery was noticed, severe action will be taken', he warned.
