Tejendra Khanna to take oath as Delhi Lt Gov

New Delhi, Apr 5: Former bureaucrat and Ranbaxy Chairman Tejendra Khanna will be the next Lt Governor of Delhi.

This would be his second term as LG of Delhi, the first being from January 7, 1997 to April 19, 1998.

Mr Khanna, 69, would take oath on April 9 at Raj Niwas, Home Minister sources told sources.

Delhi High Court Chief Justice Mukundakam Sharma would administer the oath.

He succeeds Mr B L Joshi, who had been keeping indifferent health for some time.

A 1961 batch Indian Administrative Service officer, Mr Khanna had retired from government service in 1996 as Union Commerce Secretary.

He had also held key posts as Union Food Secretary and Punjab Chief Secretary.

Mr Khanna had recently headed a central government-appointed committee to find a solution to the problem of unauthorised construction in the national capital, report of which formed the bed rock of the freshly unveiled Delhi Master Plan 2021.

He also had great interest in environment, especially preserving the threatened bio-diversity in the city, and water harvesting.

Mr Khanna had done MSc in Physics from Patna University and MA in Public Administration from University of California, USA.

Mr Khanna would take over as the 19th LG of Delhi. He had also held the post as the 16th.

This would be the second occassion that a person had become LG of Delhi twice, the other being Mr Jagmohan who was LG in 1980 and then in 1982.
