Six undertrials get five years RI

Anand, Apr 5 (UNI) Anand Fast track court today awarded five years rigorous imprisonment to six undertrials, who escaped from Borsad sub-jail after brutally beating up two policemen on duty in March 2004.

Anand Fast track court Judge M C Parekh convicted Jalakkhan alias Pathan, Ramesh alias Jadio, Dilip Dhirubhai Malick, Nagin Vasava, Narsinh Damor and Mansinh alias Raj and slapped a fine of Rs 1,000 each or in default they will have to undergo simple imprisonment of further two months.

Of the ten prisoners who escaped from the prison, six of the convicts were rearrested while four are still at large.

The incident occurred on March 3, 2004 at around 2300 hrs when one of them complained of abdominal pain and asked to be allowed to go to the toilet, the remaining persons attacked the guard with rifle butt and escaped from the prison.
