Shillong, Apr 5(UNI) As a precursor to the 4th Military World Games, the Indian Air Force's Eastern Air Command will conduct a 'Run for 4th Military World Games' on Sunday here, a defence statement said today.
A large number of Armed Forces personnel, the families, students of Air Force, Army, Central Schools and the NCC are expected to participate in the event. The planned route for the Run is from the Shillong Peak to the Sport Stadium of Air Force Station, Laitkor Peak.
The Run has primarily been planned to spread awareness about the 4th WMG amongst the service personnel and people.
The Indian Armed Forces are gearing up to undertake perhaps the biggest sporting event the country had ever witnessed--the 4th World Military Games. The games are scheduled to be held in Hyderabad and Mumbai from October 14-21.
These games are conducted to generate friendship and solidarity amongst the World's Armed Forces personnel, under the aegis of the Council of International Military Sports (CISM), located at Brussels, Belgium.
The games were introduced in 1995 and have been held in three European countries so far. It is the first time that any Asian country is hosting these games.
The MWG would witness participation from over 5000 athletes and 1000 officials from 127 nations. The Military World Games are a mega event, both in magnitude and stature and rank next only to the Olympics.
