Posts of college lecturers being filled up in priority: CM

Shimla, Apr 5 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said posts of school and college lecturers are being filled on a priority basis to ensure quality education in the state.

Making a statement in the House soon after Question Hour, he said the government had sent requisition to the Public Service Commission for filling posts of College Lecturers and to the Subordinate Services Selection Board for school teachers by relaxing ban on recruitments.

Mr Singh said his government has recently created 628 posts of School Cadre Lecturers in the Commerce subject to ensure every senior secondary school in the state had commerce lecturers.

The Congress Government after taking over the reins of the state in 2003 and up till now has graded and opened 435 Senior Secondary Schools and made them functional, he said.

He said the government had also opened and made functional 314 High Schools, 819 Middle Schools during the last four years.

In a few exceptional cases, some middle schools have been directly upgraded to senior secondary schools, he said.

The Chief Minister said his government had also notified and opened 18 new colleges in last four years besides taking over six private colleges.

As many as 10,106 new teaching-non and teaching posts were created for the new senior secondary, high and middle schools, he said and added that the government had taken the help of Parent Teacher Association (PTA) to ensure that the newly opened schools did not remain without teachers.

Mr Singh said PTAs have provided teachers in exigencies and from their own funds for the last many years and the government in turn gave grant-in-aid to them.

The PTAs was providing as many as 4,065 teachers for the schools of the state, he said.

He said after the enactment of the HP Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) Act letter of intent for three private universities have been received and were under consideration.
