PMK urges admn to drop port development project
Puducherry, Apr 5 (UNI) Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) parliamentary party leader M Ramadass today urged the administration to drop the port development project on the lines of the satellite town scheme here and to make an announcement in this regard in the Assembly.
In a statement here Prof Ramadass said a duly elected government was duty bound to drop any schemes which would adversely affect the people. ''As far as the port development project is concerned, the administration should have taken an assessment on the feasibility of the project by engaging the National Institute of Oceanography and a public debate on the basis of its report'', he observed.
The administration should have identified the benefits of the port through the National Institute of Port Management. ''Without doing the basic assessment, handing over the port to a private developer is improper on the part of the government,'' he said.
The Centre would not give concurrence to the project without assessing the basic facts, he added.
