Panchayat tank operators, scavengers press demands

Chennai, Apr 5 (UNI) Members of the Tamil Nadu Village Panchayats Water Tank Operators and Scavengers took out a slogan shouting rally here today seeking fulfilment of their demands submitted to the state government.

The Association's state unit President Mr S G Krishnan said their demands included, among other things, decalaration of all the 70,000 employees working in 12,618 village panchayats as Government servants and bringing them under regular pay scales from the present pattern of monthly consolidated pay of Rs 600, grant of pension and gratuity for them and for noon meal workers.

The raaly culminated at a public meeting where in which leaders of various political parties, including Tamil Nadu Electricity Miniser Arcot N Veersamy addressed and supported their demands.
