NTPC net up 16% at Rs 67,264.4 cr

New Delhi, Apr 5 (UNI) The country's largest power generating company, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), today said it has posted a profit of 15.57 per cent mainly because of higher generation and greater capacity addition.

Speaking to reporters here, NTPC Chairman and Managing Director T Sankaralingam said the unaudited profit after tax for 2006-07 is Rs 67,264.4 crore as compared to Rs 5,820.2 crore during 2005-06.

Net sales were Rs 30,638.7 crore during 2006-07 as against Rs 26,142 crore an increase of 17.20 per cent.

The provisional unaudited gross revenue at Rs 33,299.7 crore in 2006-07 was higher than last year at Rs 28,753 crore, rgistering an increase of 15.81 per cent.

NTPC gave the highest interim dividend at 24 per cent amounting to Rs 1,978.9 crore during the year, Mr Sankaralingam said. It also posted the highest ever capital expenditure of Rs 7,820.6 crore.

The latest market capitalisation of the company is Rs 132.7 crore (30.75 billion dollars) making it the largest company in the sector.

There has been a 100 per cent realisation of the billing for the fourt year in succession.

The capacity addition stands at 27,404 MW, including 1054 MW for JVs and the power major plans to be a 50,000 MW plus company by 2012 and 75,000 MW plus by 2017, the CMD said.
