New prepaid Cell One SIM card only after verification

Rajahmundry, Apr 5 (UNI) The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd East Godavari District Telecom General Manager M M Krishna today said New pre-paid SIM cards would be activated only after verification of documents submitted by bonafide subscriber as per the regulations prescibed by the Telecom Regulatory Autohrity of India (TRAI).

Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Krishna said the new system of SMS based activation procedure for security reasons had commenced from April 1.

He said 'Cell One' connections in East Godavari District Telecom had increased to 95,000 during 2006-07, posting 25 per cent increase over previous year.

Despite the increase in cell connections, revenue had not gone up and remained at Rs 128 crore due to disconnection of landline phones last year coupling with reduced call tariff, he added.

Plans were afoot to erect 32 more cell towers apart from the existing 81 towers during the current financial year to improve coverage, particularly in rural areas of the district, he informed.
