MPs pay floral tributes to Babu Jagjivan Ram

New Delhi, Apr 5 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee led the nation in paying tributes to Babu Jagjivan Ram on his 99th Birth Anniversary today.

At a function in the Parliament House precincts, Parliamentarians paid floral tributes to the prominent freedom fighter, social reformer, champion of human rights and able administrator that Babuji was.

Among the prominent people present were Information&Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Pachouri, and Minister of State for Finance Pawan Kumar Bansal, besides several Members of Parliament.

Minister of Social Justice&Empowerment -- and daughter of Babu Jagjivan Ram -- Meira Kumar was also present on the occasion which saw a booklet containing the profile of Babu Jagjivan Ram -- brought out by the Lok Sabha Secretariat in Hindi and English -- presented to those attending.

A statue of Babu Jagjivan Ram had been unveiled in the Parliament House precincts here by erstwhile President Shanker Dayal Sharma on August 25, 1995.
