MMRDA to complete roads project before monsoon
Mumbai, Apr 5 (UNI) The widening and repairing work of the 18 roads in this metropolis, undertaken up by the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) under the Mumbai Urban Infrastructure project (MUIP) will be completed before the onset of the monsoon.
Mr D N Kawathkar, Joint Project director of the MMRDA in a press statement issued here today said from an over all project status point of view, 80 percent of the work has been completed and the remaining 20 percent will be completed before the arrival of the monsoon in the city.
''We are geared up to greet the monsoon with an open arms. Our road construction work is in full swing. The completion of the work will enhance the average traffic speed of vehicular traffic, reduce fuel wastage and avoid water logging on the road,'' he said.
The widening, repairing and maintainance work of the 18 roads,with a total length of 150 km, which falls under the MMRDA jurisdiction was handed over to the Authority in 2005, is to be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 1200 crore, he added.
The key features that have been addressed in the project include projected future demand of passengers, traffic dispersal model for efficient mobility and connectivity to increase connectivity in the suburbs, to provide efficient and fast public transport corridors and to provide high capacity uninterrupted roas connection to both the airports etc.
