New Delhi, Apr 5 (UNI) The fate of 2,575 candidates in the fray for 272 wards in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was today sealed in over 10,000 Electronic voting machines as polling ended on a by and large peaceful note this evening.

A lacklustre public response marked the polling to the new MCD house which, barring stray incidents of violence and lathicharge by the police in four areas, was, by and large, peaceful.

However, in Seelampur area -- the epicentre of the sealing agitation last year that saw the death of four people -- a heavy voter turnout was recorded.

Observers attributed the 'peaceful polling' mainly due to the extensive security arrangements made by the Delhi Police and paramilitary forces.

However, election commission sources said repolling was likely in about three to four polling booths due to 'various reasons', while adding the final decision on this would be taken in the evening when the final poll percentage would be declared.

The counting of votes would be taken on April 7 at 0800 hrs and all results are likely to be known by noon.
