MCD polls: 17 per cent polling in first four hours

New Delhi, Apr 5 (UNI) It was a dull start to polling for the 272-member Municipal Corporation of Delhi with a polling percentage of just 17 per cent during the first four hours.

Sources in the state election commission said just 17 per cent voting was recorded till 1200 hours.

The low voting percentage is being attributed to snags in electronic voting reported from several areas which led to delays.

Polling at several centres like Kamla Nagar in North Delhi was delayed by almost an hour in the morning due to malfunctioning of the electronic voting machines. Snags in EVMs were also reported from areas like Rohini and Gokulpuri.

Though most of the snags were soon rectified, polling continued to move at a snail's pace.

Officials, however, expect the polling to pick up in the later hours.
