Litterature Leela Mazumder passes away

Kolkata, Apr 5 (UNI) Leela Mazumder,a doyen of Bengali children's literature, died at a city nursing home today following a protracted illness.

She was 100 and is survived by two sons and a daughter.

Considered to be one of the most powerful writers, who could see through the psyche of children and weave through magical imageries, Ms Mazumder was from an illustrious family boasting of legendary writers like Upendra Kishore Roy Choudhury and Sukumar Roy.

She was the paternal aunt of filmmaker Satyajit Ray, the son of Sukumar Ray.

Among her numerous novels are 'Podi Pishir Burmi Baksho', 'Halde Pakhir Palok', 'Batas Bari' and 'Dine Dupure'.

Ms Mazumder, who completed 100 only last month, was widely respected in literary circles.

Noted litterateurs thronged the nursing home to pay last tributes to the departed writer.
