Chennai, Apr 5 (UNI) The opposition AIADMK's sudden change in stance on supporting reservation for Christian and Muslims in government jobs and educational institutions in the state was aimed at the Minoritis vote bank, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said today.

When asked by reporters about the sudden change in stand after AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa had earlier opposed the Reservation Bill passed in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, he said the AIADMK wanted to get minorities' votes in the event of early Lok Sabha elections. 'That's why she has contradicted herself by asking her partymen to speak in support of it' he said.

Earlier, Mr Karunanidhi, intervening during the debate in the Assembly, announced the State government's decision to provide exclusive reservation for Christian and Muslim minorities in government jobs and educational institutions in the state.

Meanwhile, PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss, a strong votary of reservation for minorities, welcomed this announcement.

As the Chief Minister had said he would hold discussions and take legal steps for implementing reservation in the State after the Supreme court verdict on 69 per cent quota, Dr Ramadoss said it was important the State should get a favourable verdict.

'The Tamil Nadu government should take all steps by involving top legal experts to win the quota case in the apex court', he said, adding that since the PMK had impleaded itself in the case, it would appoint senior lawyers to argue the case with the government.
