Furniture worth crores gutted in Varanasi fire

Varanasi, Apr 5 (UNI) Furniture worth over two crore was gutted in a major fire which engulfed five shops here this morning.

Police said here that fire engulfed five shops in the Jangambari furniture market soon after the shops had opened for the day.

Initial investigations have blamed the mishap on a short-circuit.

At least 25 fire tenders were pressed into service to contain the blaze which was still continuing. ''Narrow bylanes of nearby residential areas was creating a problem in the rapid movement of fire tenders,'' said an official present on the spot.

There, however, was no loss of life in the incident.
