Former BDO in vigilance trap

Bhubaneswar, Apr 5 (UNI) A former Block Development Officer (BDO) was chargesheeted for misappropriation of money to the tune of Rs 61.79 lakh by tampering cheque issued in favour of the non-existent beneficiaries under special Indira Awas Yojana.

Cases have been registered against Orissa Administrative Service (OAS) officer Bishnupada Grahacharya, a former BDO of Hatadihi block in Keonjhar district, for misappropriating government money, a release, issued by the Vigilance Director , said today.

On completion of investigation, the prima-facie evidence was established against Grahacharya, who would now stand his trial in the Court of Law.

In another case, two Assistant Sub-Inspectors of Police were also chargesheeted by the vigilance for demanding illegal gratification and possessing disproportionate asset beyond known sources of income.

While ASI Pramod Kumar Rana of Cuttack District was chargesheeted for possession of disproportionate asset beyond his known sources of income, ASI Krushna Chandra Pradhan of Balugaon Police station was chargesheeted for demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs 2,000 for effecting arrest of the accused against whom an NBW was issued.

Chargesheets were also filed against IDCO Deputy Manager Baikunthanath Chand for possession of disproportionate assets beyond his known sources of income and against former MARKFED Area Manager Bhuban Mohan Dash for misappropriation of Rs 1.31 lakh.
