Biggest international Salsa Festival gets underway here

Mumbai, Apr 5 (UNI) The third annual Salsa India Festival, 2007, being hosted in the metropolis for the first time, got underway at the 'Joss' at Kala Ghoda here today.

The festival will showcase performances by eight Salsa India dance troupes and host nightly theme parties till April 8. Five international Salsa DJs, including DJ Henry Knowles, will spin their tunes during the festival.

Salsa Instructor from US Shaka Brown said, ''Until today, I did not realize the popularity of Salsa in Mumbai and the level it has reached. I hope the fans will enjoy our performances.'' India's Pooja Bedi, Suneeta Rao and Ishitta Arun will be among performers, supported by Yana Gupta.

Dancers from UK, US, France, Belgium, Malta, Korea, Dubai, Poland, Switzerland and Holland will be performing Belly Dancing to Flamenco, Hip Hop to Contemporary.

Founder and President of Salsa India Productions Kaytee Namgyal said ''Salsa India's popularity has been rapidly growing in India. Through this festival, we hope to put India on the World Salsa Map.'' The Salsa India Dance Company, of the Salsa India Productions, is the biggest 'Salsa Only' dance school with studios in Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata. The festival has been presented in association with 'Bacardi BLive' and 'DNA After Hours'.
